It’s always sad to see bands part ways with original band members, but that just makes the reunion so much better. It’s very common today, especially in the older classic rock demo, to see bands split only to get back together when members are available again.
So, the end isn’t always the end. Just ask bands such as Motley Crue and Kiss, who have retired only to come back time and time again.
Now, the guys of classic rock band Foreigner, who date back to the 1970s have announced a December 2025 U.S. tour with with original singer Lou Gramm. The trek sets off December 3 and 4 in Port Chester, New York and run for eight shows before closing out on the 13th of the month in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Gramm will be joining the band to perform a handful of songs with Foreigner’s new full-time singer Luis Maldonado, who is expected to take the place of vocalist Kelly Hansen following the group’s previously announced summer tour dates. The December shows will also mark Maldonado’s first U.S. tour fronting Foreigner after he filled in for Hansen in Latin America.
Luis Maldonado stated in a release, “Earlier this year, we toured Mexico and South America with the incredible Lou Gramm. We all had such a fantastic time performing and being together, and it’s with that same excitement I look forward to working with Lou again. He was an integral part of the writing and recording of the Foreigner 4 album and his presence will add a historic dimension to our forthcoming tour.”
The December tour is called the “Foreigner 4 Deluxe Tour,” and the band is also releasing an expanded reissue of tehir 1981 album on September 12. Find the band’s upcoming tour dates on their website.
Jeff Pilson of Classic Rock Band Foreigner Talks Music and America
In a new interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio, Jeff Pilson talked about Foreigner’s farewell tour, which is no longer a farewell tour. These guys are here to stay.
Pilson even said Foreigner has some new music in the works. “There’s a couple of songs floating around that I would love to see us finish. Maybe 2025 will give us the time to do that,” he said. “It’s very, very difficult to do that when we’re on the road. It’s just really, really hard. Then, when we have time off, people need the time off. So, it’s very hard to write and record touring as much as we do. But, like I say, maybe in 2025 we’ll have time to do it.”
Pilson also talked about a divided America at the time of the interview, which was in 2024. “I think the thing that I’m really pointing to in all of that is that we have these two sets of truths, certainly in this country, and I think it’s getting more and more in other parts of the world, where we have two measures of truth,” he said. “And as long as we have that, we’re divided, and that to me is a really horrible thing. Because, that’s not how great countries or empires or whatever you want to call it, that’s not how they thrive, is when they’re divided and when there’s no clear focus as to what is true and meaningful and the way forward.”
