Metallica came from the old school way of doing things in the music world, which means that they played concert in small venues before they got big with songs like “Enter Sandman.” This was decades before the Internet made it easy for musicians to “make it” online and build a following before they ever played a concert.

Well, Metallica are going back to their roots. The metal band has announced that they’ll be playing a tiny, 250-capacity concert later this month, and it’s all in honor of their new radio station.

Lars Ulrich and Company to Get Their Own Radio Station

Metallica have announced that they’re launching their own channel on SiriusXM, and in honor, they’ll perform an exclusive show at a 250-capacity venue later this month. Drummer Lars Ulrich made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM on Wednesday, Aug. 6, to talk about the group’s new channel, Maximum Metallica, which will launch on Aug. 29 and be available to stream on channel 42.

During the radio appearance, Ulrich also said that the band will play an intimate show at a small venue called The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York, on Aug. 28, the evening before the station launches.

Since the venue only seats 250 people, it’s going to be difficult to get tickets to the show. But, Metallica enthusiasts can enter to win a trip to the show by using a submission form on SiriusXM’s website. The grand prize features airfare, a Hertz car rental, lodging and two tickets to the concert.

The winner will be chosen around Aug. 21 and will be notified by phone. So, check your phone, and don’t necessarily think it’s a spam call if it says the caller in Metallica.

The Stephen Talkhouse is legendary. In a description of the venue on its website, it states, “An intimate venue unlike any other, the Stephen Talkhouse has been featuring internationally-renowned performers alongside local East End artists since 1987.”

“Situated on the Main Street of Amagansett, theTalkhouse is a legendary music scene and casual neighborhood bar in one: the place to make new friends or catch up with old ones, as your favorite musical luminary enjoys the same at the other end of the bar.” Their upcoming shows feature a bevy of budding talent but nobody as big as Metallica. No big surprise there.

The concert will be recorded and aired on the Maximum Metallica channel during the week beginning Sept. 1, plus on the Howard Stern channel (Howard 101) on Sept. 5 at 7PM ET/PT.

What the Maximum Metallica Radio Station Will Play

The Maximum Metallica station will feature a lot of Metallica content, because it’s a full celebration of all things about the band. The channel promises to crank everything “from mega hits and deep cuts to live shows and behind-the-scenes stories straight from the band,” plus special interviews and other recordings from the members of the group.

Metallica joins a long line of other establishment musicians and bands who have their own channels, including Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Led Zeppelin. It will certainly be interesting to tune in.
