It may seem like those who rock together should stay together, but that’s not always the case. More often than not, rock star couples end up breaking up, and whether it’s the drama of the business or something else, it’s always sad to see a beloved couple call it quits.
But, throughout music history, some couples in rock ‘n’ roll have endured. These couples have defied the odds and remained together for decades. It’s sweet and comforting to know that love can truly prevail, even amid the hectic nature of touring, recording music and simply being a rock star. So, in honor of the love stories, Audio Ink Radio presents rock star couples who are still together.
Rock Star Couples Who Stayed Together a Long Time
U2 Vocalist Bono and Ali Hewson
U2 singer and activist Bono and his wife Ali Hewson have stayed out of the public eye, but their marriage has been strong. The two got married back in 1982 and met as teenagers at school in Dublin, so they’re literally high school sweethearts. They have four children together: daughters Jordan and Eve and sons Elijah and John.
“I am very distrustful of vertical relationships – hence my marriage, hence being in a band,” Bono told the Irish Times in 2022 regarding his marriage. “I don’t want to have a boss. I don’t want to be a boss.”
The Beatles’ Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach
Ringo Starr of the Beatles and his wife, actress Barbara Bach, got married in 1981, so right around the time Bono and his wife tied the knot. Their marriage has remained drama-free throughout the years, which says a lot. The two first met on the set of the 1981 movie “Caveman,” and they were both were previously married but found love again with each other.
“The pair married in April 1981, and the wedding was a poignant occasion, as it brought the three remaining Beatles together just months after John Lennon’s shocking murder,” Woman’s Word notes. “At the wedding Starr and his bandmates had an impromptu jam session, making it a truly special event.”
Alice Cooper and Sheryl Goddard
.
Alice Cooper and Sheryl Goddard got married in 1976, and the couple has remained a force in music. The two met in 1975 when she joined his band as a dancer on the famed “Welcome to My Nightmare” tour. After they got married, they had some problems due to Cooper’s alcoholism and drug addiction, and Goddard filed for divorce in 1983. But, Cooper got cleaned up, and the two reconciled in 1984.
The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Patti Hansen
.
Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones and Patti Hansen met at Patti Hansen’s 23rd birthday in 1979, and the two instantly hit it off. They were famously introduced by Jerry Hall and got married just a few years later, in 1983 on Keith Richards’ 40th birthday. While it can’t be easy being married to the guitarist of one of the biggest bands on the planet. these two have made it work.
“When Patti and I met it was just . . . boom,” Richards said in an interview with Variety in 2018. “There was life before Patti and life after. We just clicked, and she rescued me from, shall we say, dark periods . . . without going into too much detail.”
Another couple worth mentioning is Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne, even though Ozzy has sadly passed away. The two got married in 1982 and have been through some struggles, especially because of Ozzy’s addiction issues, but they stayed together throughout the years. They’re one of the most high-profile couples in metal music. Rest in piece, Ozzy.
Oh, and why not mention Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift? Sure, Swift isn’t a rocker, but this couple certainly qualifies as a high-profile couple in music. Kelce and Swift started dating in the summer of 2023, and they got engaged on Tuesday, August 26. So, it appears that after all of those boyfriends that Swift wrote about in her music, she has finally found her forever man.
