AC/DC is such a popular band that pretty much every single one of their songs seems like a hit. But, there are actually some deeper cuts from this celebrated Australian band that don’t get enough attention.
What often happens with bands as popular as AC/DC is that their hits become so huge that it’s difficult to give their other material any attention. That’s too bad, because every band that has tons of hits also has a lot of hidden gems that don’t get dusted off and spun often enough.
AC/DC’s catalog has a great deal of depth. Going past the essential hits, it’s easy to find other songs that are simply magical. AC/DC has been rocking it since they formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. They began with a stellar lineup featuring brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, Colin Burgess, Larry Van Kriedt and Dave Evans, but they changed their lineup before they got famous. The band’s debut album is 1975’s “High Voltage,” which only came out in Australia at first but then was released in 1976 internationally. Now, let’s get into some of AC/DC’s deep cuts that deserve more love.
AC/DC Deep Cuts That Need More Love
“Let Me Put My Love Into You” off “Back in Black”
In 1980, AC/DC delivered a masterpiece in “Back in Black,” and that album is in no way underrated or packed with deep cuts. But, one of the songs on there, the closing song in “Let Me Put My Love Into You,” never really got its due. Those who love guitar soloing will find lots to enjoy about this track, which features a wild guitar solo from Angus Young. The track also has a sort of atmospheric vibe, which makes way for Brian Johnson’s strong vocals to really take center stage.
“House of Jazz” off “Stiff Upper Lip”
AC/DC’s later work doesn’t usually get appreciated, which is a shame, because it’s really good. But, that’s common with classic bands. In 2000, AC/DC released their album “Stiff Upper Lip,” and the set featured a gorgeous rock song in “House of Jazz.” The track has a great beat and just comes together so well, although it doesn’t really sound jazzy. Either way, it rocks. That’s not to mention that “House of Jazz” features one of the most creative and interesting riffs by Angus Young that the band has ever delivered. It just shows this band’s ingenuity.
“Rock or Bust” off “Rock or Bust”
As with “House of Jazz,” the title track off “Rock or Bust” didn’t get as much fanfare as AC/DC’s classic songs because, well, it’s not classic. The band released “Rock or Bust” in 2014, and it turned out to be a fantastic collection of hard rock songs that represented where the band was in 2014. Johnson sounds great on these tracks, and the instrumentalists still hold their own. Of course, “Rock or Bust” gets lost in the band’s more legendary material, but it’s only a matter of time before it breaks out and is also deemed a classic.
