The life of a rock star can be super fun and exciting, but there also doesn’t leave much to someone’s private life. The downside of being a rock star is that everyone is in your business and wants to know everything going on in your life. That’s especially the case with health issues, because especially when rockers get up there in age, people want to make sure they’ll be around for a long time.
Now, Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has revealed that he actually had a very scary health incident last Christmas, but he kept it to himself until now. It’s hard to blame him, because health problems are difficult enough without everyone in the world watching.
Neil says that he suffered a stroke last Christmas, and that’s why the group was forced to postpone its Las Vegas residency that was set for the spring of this year. It got bad, too, in that Neil was forced to re-learn how to walk and was even told by doctors he may not be able to perform again.
Thankfully, he seems okay now, and the band’s residency is rescheduled for this fall, starting Friday, September 12, at Dolby Live at Park MGM. It runs through October 3.
Vince Neil Opens Up in Interview
Speaking with the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday, Neil detailed the medical condition that was the reason for the postponement.
“I had a stroke. My whole left side went out,” he said, adding, “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough. The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.'”
Neil was back and performing even sooner than this month. He actually performed a solo show in Boston on August 1. Now we understand why he said from the stage that night, “They said I wouldn’t be back on stage again. I said, ‘(Bleep) that, man.’ And I’m back and I’m with you guys tonight. And I’m really proud to be here, man.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Neil talked more about the health issues. “I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair. I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”
Motley Crue Singer Details His Road to Recovery
Wow. It’s wild to think that he was in such a bad health state for so long. He added, “It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do. You try to walk but it doesn’t come out right.”
Now, Neil says he’s been working with a local football coach in Nashville, Tennessee, and has been running, adding, “It’s been tough, but I’m back, I’m 90-, 95-percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great.”
So, what should attendees at the Las Vegas residency expect? “It takes you through the full Motley Crue lifestyle. I am going to push through the best I can.”
We’re so happy to hear that Neil is back and better than ever. Hopefully he’s healthy for years to come.
