Silverstein’s new album promises 11 originals and 11 covers

Canadian post-hardcore boys Silverstein have announced details on their forthcoming Short Songs album, and the specifics are engulfing. Short Songs will feature 22 – well — short songs, divided evenly between 11 originals and 11 covers. The album follows Silverstein’s 2009 release, A Shipwreck in the Sand, and 2011 album, Rescue.

As if a 22-track album weren’t enough excitement for Silverstein fans, Short Songs will also feature guest appearances by nearly a dozen players in the punk and hardcore world: Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), Chris #2 (Anti-Flag), Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Prada), and Nick Diener (The Swellers), Scott Wade (ex-Comeback Kid), Paul Rousseau (Burst & Bloom), Quit Your Job (Originally by Chixdiggit), Jimmy Stadt (Polar Bear Club) and more. Silverstein are truly keeping it in the family with, Short Songs.

Looking at the list of covers, Silverstein picked a wide selection and not always bands you would expect them to cover. Songs include the album’s namesake “Short Songs” by Dead Kennedys, “Destination: Blood!” by Orchid, “Coffee Mug” from the Descendents, “18 Scenes from Parisian Life” by the Promise Ring, “It’s My Job to Keep Punk Rock Elite” from NOFX, “The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink” from the guys of Green Day and more. Chances are, the Green Day pick will attract quite a bit of buzz from the punk community.
