Death Cab for Cutie Announce Unique 2012 North American Tour

Death Cab for Cutie will kick off a U.S. tour in April

Death Cab for Cutie have never fit neatly inside the cookie-cutter, alternative band mold. Now, the Seattle indie rock gents have announced a tour that certainly fits outside usual touring conventions.

Death Cab are planning a run of shows at small, historic venues throughout North America. Here’s where it gets interesting: Members of San Francisco’s Magic*Magik Orchestra will join the Cuties onstage for the gigs. It’s true– Death Cab are going symphonic! Known for their groundbreaking work with Mike Patton, John Vanderslice, the Walkmen and the Dodos, the Magic*Magik Orchestra joined up with Death Cab for Cutie for their recent installment of “VH1 Storytellers” and contributed all the string arrangements on the band’s latest album, “Codes and Keys.”

The North American tour is set to kick off April 10 in Denver, Colo., and run through May 13 in Seattle. Presale tickets for all shows will go on sale to the members of the band’s official fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138, starting this Friday (Jan. 20). General public tickets go on sale starting Jan. 27. Find complete tour dates, below.

“Codes and Keys” arrived at No. 3 at the Billboard 200 last May, buoyed by a catchy, pop-driven first single, “We Are a Tourist.” Death Cab for Cutie’s latest single, “Underneath the Sycamore,” will drop just before the upcoming tour, and the band recently recorded a music video for the song with director Walter Robot, who directed the group’s “Grapevine Fires” video.
