Adele to give first post-surgery performance at the 54th annual Grammys

Neo-soul phenomenon Adele is the latest artist confirmed to perform Sunday (Feb. 12) at the 54th annual Grammy Awards celebration, joining the likes of Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkston, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars and more.

The U.K. starlet was long-rumored to perform at the awards show, but as the date inched closer, doubts started to set in as to whether the singer would be ready following her November surgery to stop bleeding from a polyp on her vocal chords. As it turns out, Adele is more than ready, and she’s beyond excited to be performing at the legendary show.

Adele announced the good news Tuesday (Jan. 31) via Twitter: “Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It’s been so long I started to forget I was a singer! I can’t wait, speak soon xx.”

This will be the second Grammy Awards show to feature Adele, as she sang “Chasing Pavements” in 2009 at the presentation. At that same Grammy appearance, Adele scored two Grammys: one for Best New Artist and the other for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Pavements.” Since then, she’s quickly catapulted to being one of the highest-charting artists in the world.

In a statement released Tuesday, Adele voiced gratefulness for the chance to sing once again. “I’m immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards,” she said. “It’s an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.”
