Adele and the Foos win big at Grammy Awards, amid tributes to Whitney Houston

Adele and Foo Fighters took home a slew of trophies at the 54th annual Grammy Awards Sunday (Feb. 12), a show that also had the weighty responsibility of serving as a tribute to the late, great Whitney Houston. As touching tributes for Houston rolled in throughout the night, peaking at a special tribute performance of “I Will Always Love You” from Jennifer Hudson, Adele focused on getting it together for his first live performance since undergoing surgery to restore her voice last year.

Adele truly made her return at the 2012 ceremony, belting out her passion-filled chart-topper, “Rolling in the Deep.” Any singer who has struggled with a period of uncertainty with his or her voice can understand Adele’s challenge and celebrate at the victory of Adele reclaiming her voice. The star-packed crowd gave her a lengthy standing ovation, including Rihanna, Paul McCartney and many other musicians.

Adele took home all six Grammy Awards for which she was nominated Sunday, including the highly-coveted Album of the Year for “21.” “I just wanna say, ‘Mum, your girl did good!’” she excitedly blurted to the crowd, referring to her mom, who couldn’t be there. She went on to explain that “21” is such a popular album because it’s about something to which everybody can relate: “a rubbish relationship.” Foo Fighters were the other big winner at the Grammys Sunday, with grunge frontman Dave Grohl and company taking home a whopping five trophies for songs off their Butch Vig-produced album “Wasting Light,” including the uber-important Grammy for Best Rock Performance for their single, “Walk.” For a complete list of Grammy winners, visit the Grammy Awards’ official website.
