Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis and Flea Talk Rock Hall Honors
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea: ‘The No. 1 thing is just our love for music’
Last night (April 14) was a big one in the legacy of Red Hot Chili Peppers. The California funk-rock group accepted induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, last night, along with Guns N’ Roses, Beastie Boys and other overdue rockers.
Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis says the guys are stoked to accept the Rock Hall honors, but it doesn’t mean they’re finished making music. “We’re going somewhere, [so] how can we stop it and take an award when really we’re just half way there?” he said, backstage at the ceremony. “But, it is nice to get together with people we spent some incredible years with along the way… we’re still getting better and still making mistakes and still talking to folks like you from time to time.”
As much as Red Hot Chili Peppers have been seen as rebellious or subversive when it comes to traditions such as the Rock Hall induction, bass player Flea says the guys respect the honor. “I like the Hall of Fame. I think it’s cool,” Flea said backstage at the ceremony. “From the very beginning, no matter what aesthetic or what design people saw from us, we always had fun doing whatever we wanted, not disregarding whatever anyone might want us to do. But, the No. 1 thing is just our love for music, and from the get-go, all we want to do was to resonate the way our own hearts beat with music.”
