Grunge rockers Soundgarden ready box set featuring their entire catalog

The boys of Soundgarden are hard at work on their much-anticipated new album, are while fans patiently wait for the new tracks, the band are offering up something to tie them over. Soundgarden will release a classic album box set called “The Classic Album Selection” on May 21 featuring the original A&M recordings of all of Soundgarden’s pioneering grunge rock albums: “Louder Than Love” (1989), “Badmotorfinger” (1991), “Superunknown” (1994) and “Down On The Upside” (1996). The collection will also include 2011’s live recording of the group’s 1996 West Coast tour, “Live on I-5,” so this is the complete Soundgarden anthology.

The albums will come packaged as a set of mini-LPs in gatefold wallets with booklets and special new artwork designed by famed designer and longtime Soundgarden comrade Josh Graham. Check out the full box set album listing, below.

In other Soundgarden news, frontman Chris Cornell and the guys released their first original track in over 15 years, “Live to Rise,” last week, and the song is available as a free download for a limited time on iTunes in conjunction with a promotion for “Marvel’s the Avengers.” The song — which the band says they recorded specifically for the film — will roll during the end credits of the upcoming film and also appear on the film’s soundtrack. The soundtrack will hop on iTunes on May 1, and the action flick will hit theaters on May 4. Meanwhile, Soundgarden’s new studio album is expected to arrive this fall.
