Slash Thinks Rock Hall Show Ended Guns N’ Roses Reunion Possibilities

Slash speaks out about the possibility of a GN’R reunion

It’s hardly a secret that when Guns N’ Roses were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month, original frontman Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin were no shows for the induction ceremony. So, for the live performance, Guns N’ Roses’ original members — guitarist Slash, bass player Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler — teamed up with former guitarist Gilby Clarke and Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy to rock the show.

As it turns out, former GN’R guitarist Slash says he wasn’t sure whether the guys would perform in any form at the induction ceremony. “In my heart of hearts, [I] wanted to have the whole original band get together and actually perform, which I sort of knew was wishful thinking,” Slash told Rolling Stone. “It became apparent that that wasn’t going to happen. I was sort of disillusioned with the whole thing…I thought Axl was still going to go, and it wasn’t until the last minute that I heard that he wasn’t coming, and that’s when we all decided we were just going to go ahead and play anyway.”

The fact that getting inducted into the Rock Hall wasn’t even enough to get the original GN’R lineup back together makes Slash think a true reunion will never happen. Still, they did it for the fans. “We felt a sense of loyalty to the enthusiasm from the fans,” Slash said.  “I think that was really the glue that held us all together to get past whatever the differences were and just go up and be there. It wasn’t because we were trying to wag our finger at anybody or try to be vengeful in any way. It was a homage to the fans.”
