Pearl Jam Guitarist: ‘We Really Want to Finish a Record This Year’
Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard hopes band finishes new album before 2013
One of the biggest questions in rock music this year is whether or not Pearl Jam will get their new album out before the year wraps up. Over the past few months, band members have given different predictions regarding when to expect the new album to pop, and now, Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard says the band really hopes to get it out before 2013.
“We really want to finish a record this year,” Gossard told Billboard. “[It’s] now between half and three quarters done, but we got some new material and we’re excited about hopefully doing some more work on that later in the year.”
He added that “if all goes according to plan,” the new album will reach stores and online outlets sometime before June of 2013. Let the fun begin!
Gossard also commented on frontman Eddie Vedder, who was forced to postpone the start of his U.S. solo tour as a result of temporary nerve damage in his right arm from a back injury suffered earlier this year. Vedder’s run, which was originally booked to being in April, will now kick off starting on October 31 in Las Vegas, Nev.
“It’s just really one of those things you have to rest it [and] you have to do physical therapy for awhile to get it to come back,” Gossard said. “He’s doing everything he can to get well…He’s probably overwhelmed with all the people sending him notes and saying, ‘Hey we’re thinking about you.’” Vedder is excepted to make a full recovery.
