Stone Temple Pilots frontman talks touring and possibly reuniting with Velvet Revolver
It’s hardly a secret that Stone Temple Pilots are planning a massive tour later this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their debut full-length, “Core.” Chatting with Rolling Stone, frontman Scott Weiland chatted about the upcoming tour and even implied that a Velvet Revolver union might be in the cards in the future.
“We’re going to play [“Core”] in its entirety,” Weiland said, when asked about Stone Temple Pilots’ upcoming tour. “I think it’ll be really fun, because the one thing that I got tired of was sort of playing the same basic set list every night. It was like, ‘the hits.’ This way, it’s something different, and I think it will be cool.”
Weiland is also hoping to get out a new STP album in the near future. “It’s odd because we used to tour to promote our records, and now we put out records to promote tours,” he said. “Which is the way of the world, though.”
As for Velvet Revolver, the supergroup Weiland used to front with members of Guns N’ Roses, Weiland says he’s open to a reunion. That’s news for Velvet Revolver fans, who have heard for months that Weiland wasn’t open to fronting the band again. “If [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] can do it with A Perfect Circle and Tool, then there’s no reason why I shouldn’t go and do it with both bands,” Weiland said.
