The Black Keys Plotting New Documentary
Blues-rock duo the Black Keys are being filmed for an upcoming documentary on band life
Following in the footsteps of bands such as Foo Fighters and Metallica, the Black Keys are plotting a new documentary about the band. Speaking with SPIN, filmmaker Noah Abrams, who is good buddies with the blues-rock duo, explained that he’s working on a documentary featuring Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). Abrams called the upcoming film as “a buddy comedy with perhaps the greatest soundtrack of all time.”
“A lot of music documentaries spend too much time trying to make people look cool,” Abrams said. “I’m fortunate enough to know both these guys pretty well and their relationship is pretty incredible and very funny.”
Abrams added that he’s been taping the Black Keys since the beginning of the year, and in the process, he’s captured “some amazing footage” of the guys on their European and North American tours. Abrams says he he’ll keep filming the band through August, and he’s shooting to get the documentary to theaters sometime in 2013.
In other Black Keys news, the duo recently added a run of West Coast tour dates to promote their 2012 album, “El Camino.” The band’s West Coast tour kicks off on Oct. 1 in Fresno, Calif., and hits Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego and a handful of other cities before concluding on Oct. 10 in Las Cruces, N.M. The guys are also currently on the road, and for a complete list of Black Keys tour dates, visit the band’s official website.
