Jack Black’s Tenacious D Scores Big Billboard 200 Debut
Tenacious D’s latest album garnered the band’s highest chart debut ever
Tenacious D fans are apparently in the house. The comedy rock group’s latest album, “Rize of the Fenix,” took the No. 5 position on the Billboard 200 chart this week, pushing 44,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. “Rize of the Fenix’s” debut-week sales showing scored the guys their best sales week ever. The group’s last two albums, 2006’s The Pick of Destiny and 2001’s self-titled disc, debuted at No. 8 and No. 33, respectively.
“The brave warriors return savagely beaten down by the long exile in the desert of non-believers,” the band proudly declared in an official statement. “They emerge triumphant. Survivors of a post-apocalyptic war on rock and roll more heroic and robust than ever before. It is the dawning of a new day. The dawn of the D.”
Americans aren’t the only ones feeling Jack Black’s crazy riffs and lyrics. “Rize of the Fenix” also notched top-five positions on album charts around the world, including No. 2 in the U.K. and Austria, No. 4 in Ireland and Switzerland and No.5 in Germany. Congratulations to the comedy rock men for their stellar debut!
