Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl to Take Part in Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction
Foo Fighters frontman will be involved in this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame induction
Foo Fighters fans have something to cheer about when they check out the lineup for this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner, as Foo Fighters singer and founder Dave Grohl has just inked on to be involved with the event. Whether Grohl’s involvement will mean performing or presenting at the event is still up in the air, but in either case, the singer and guitarist will put his grunge-rock stamp on the evening’s festivities. Grohl and Foo Fighters, of course, scored several major rock hits with the band’s latest album, 2011’s “Wasting Light.”
In addition to Grohl, this year’s gala will honor Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seger and Jim Steinman, the latter of whom penned Meat Loaf’s chart-topping songs, as well as major hits for Celine Dion. More songwriters on the honoree list include popular country songwriter Don Schlitz, who wrote the timeless Kenny Rogers song “The Gambler,” as well as musical composers Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, who originated “The Fantasticks,” which to this day holds the record as the longest-running musical in history.
In addition, Bette Midler will picked up the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ben E. King will be presented with the Towering Song Award for writing “Stand by Me.” The ceremony, which serves to honor top songwriters in a variety of genres, happens June 14 in New York City.
