Linkin Park’s ‘Living Things’ Scores No. 1 Spot on Billboard 200

Linkin Park’s ‘Living Things’ sold over 223,000 copies in the U.S. last week to land at No. 1 on the chart

This Fourth of July was a great one for the dudes of Linkin Park. The alternative rock group’s fifth album, “Living Things,” jetted to No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart yesterday. That’s a gift that’s much better than fireworks.

The album pushed over 223,000 copies to take the top spot on the chart, barely elbowing out Adam Levine-fronted pop rock band Maroon 5, which came it at No. 2 with roughly 222,000 copies sold. The race was down to the wire, but in the end, Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda and the guys pulled it off to make it a Linkin Park win.

Not only is Linkin Park No. 1, but according to an official statement from the band’s camp, “Living Things” is Linkin Park’s fourth consecutive album to land in the No. 1 slot. Only the band’s first and, ironically, now-iconic release, 2000’s “Hybrid Theory,” took some time to climb up the chart. This No. 1 showing proves that the band have been able to change up their sound enough to not only keep longtime fans, but also attract newbies who are just learning the ins-and-outs of Linkin Park’s sound and message.

There’s even more good news for the Park. “Living Things” also entered the charts at No. 1 in Germany, the U.K. and Japan. In other Linkin Park news, the band released the lyric video for their song “Lost in the Echo,” off “Living Things,” last week. Watch the eerie clip here.
