The Villains’ Mike Wilkes Talks DeLuna Fest, New Single ‘Cadillac’

The Villains guitarist looking forward to DeLuna Fest gig with Foo Fighters

The Villains make Southern rock with the swagger of country and rawness of rock and roll. The Atlanta-based group recently unleashed their sophomore album, “Velocity,” featuring production by former Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers drummer Stan Lynch. The band also worked with some A-list songwriters for the release, including Tom Douglas, who has penned tracks for Miranda Lambert and Tim McGraw, and Richard Feldman, who has written with Eric Clapton and Joe Cocker.

Speaking with Audio Ink Radio, guitarist Michael Wilkes explained the band’s busy summer schedule, including the release of their new single, “Cadillac,” which just hit radio.

“We just released a second single, ‘Cadillac,’ and it’s getting some good adds around the country!” Wilkes said. “It was co-written by Peter Stroud, who has served as the guitarist for Sheryl Crow and Don Henley, and he actually has done some writing with Stevie Nicks and Sarah McLachlan. He’s a good friend of ours, and a mentor, in a way.

“We also have some tour dates coming up and some festival dates. We’re playing Deluna Fest in Florida with Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam, so we’re very excited to be a part of that.”

As for DeLuna Fest, the show takes place Sept. 21 through 23 at Pensacola Beach in Pensacola, Fla. and will also feature performances by Florence + the Machine, Ben Folds Five, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, the Wood Brothers and the Joy Formidable, among others.
