Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe was released from the Czech prison where he spent much of last month
Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has been released from a Czech prison. According to the Czech news site Blesk.cz, the singer was freed Thursday (Aug. 2) and reportedly boarded a a flight to come back home at 1 p.m. Czech time today (Aug. 3). He’s on target to be back in New York City later this afternoon.
Blythe was originally arrested in June on charges of manslaughter during a “tragic incident” in Prague at a Lamb of God performance on May 24, 2010, which, ultimately, led to a fan’s death. Although he posted $200,000 in bail shortly after being put in prison, Blythe wasn’t released until yesterday, since prosecutors kept challenging his bail amount. Finally, he posted bail of 8 million Czech Koruna bail [approximately $400,000] today and was set free.
“I can confirm that [Blythe] was released yesterday afternoon,” said Gabriela Pohlová, a spokeswoman for the prison, on Friday (Aug. 3). Martina Lhotáková, court spokeswoman, also stated that “the decision was reached yesterday at the end of a closed session. The only condition of release was the approximately 8 million Czech Koruna bail [approximately $400,000].”
While fans, friend and family of Blythe certainly have reason to celebrate following his release, Blythe isn’t completely in safe territory yet. He’ll probably have to return to Prague for a full trial at some point. Meanwhile, Lamb of God recently had to put a nix to their much-anticipated summer tour with Dethklok and Gojira, due to Blythe’s incarceration.
