Linkin Park Extend Free Concert Tickets to U.S. Olympians
Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda extends offer to U.S. athletes competing in the Olympics
The Olympics are the hot topic of the moment, with the U.S. team scoring medal after metal in everything from swimming to gymnastics in London. U.S. fans exploded with excitement when female gymnast Gabby Douglas took the gold medal in the all-around this week, and Douglas is just one of many athletes representing the U.S. with a medal win. Now, Linkin Park are getting in on the Olympic spirit and inviting every U.S. Olympian to come to one of their upcoming shows for free.
The invitation came from Linkin Park multi-instrumentalist and rapper Mike Shinoda, who posted a special invite on the band’s Facebook page: “Thanks for your hard work and dedication in representing the U.S. at the London Olympics. When you return home, my bandmates and I cordially invite each and every one of you to be our guest at a Linkin Park concert of your choice on the upcoming Honda Civic Tour in the U.S., with Incubus and Mutemath. Show dates are here. We have already reached out to the USOC; they’ll put us in touch. We hope to meet you soon. Until then, we’ll be rooting for you here at home.”
Linkin Park are currently supporting their 2012 release, “Living Things,” which jet to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 the first week of its release. The Honda Civic Tour will set off Aug. 11 in Bristow, Va., and Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennginton says he feels a lot of excitement around this tour. “Yeah, this to me feels as exciting as a lot of the concerts that I would be excited to go to when I was a kid,” he said in a recent press conference. “That was I think one of the reasons why Lollapalooza when I was young became so important so quickly.” (Photo: Mike Shinoda onstage, by Anne Erickson.)
