U2, Coldplay, Phoenix to Be Featured on Jay-Z-Produced ‘NBA 2k13’
Songs by Coldplay, U2 and more will appear on the upcoming video game, ‘NBA 2k13’
We already knew that Jay-Z would executive produce the much-anticipated, new video game “NBA 2k13,” including gathering up all the music to be featured on the upcoming game. Now, Jay-Z and company have announced the track listing for the new game, and the soundtrack packs a collection of high-profile players, including Coldplay, U2 and Phoenix, according to Billboard.
Specifically, tracks will include U2’s “Elevation” from their 2000 release “All That You Can’t Leave Behind,” Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” off 2008’s album by the same name, Phoenix’s “1901” from the outfit’s 2009 album, “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” and several Jay-Z tracks, including “On to the Next One,” “Public Service Announcement” and “The Bounce.”
While Jay-Z reportedly had a major hand in putting together the soundtrack, his involvement is much more complex than simply picking some songs for the video game. “Jay is completely obsessed with authenticity,” 2K Sport’s vice president of marketing, Jason Argent, told Billboard of Jay-Z’s contribution to the game. “So right off the bat, he said ‘Look, I love this franchise and I love this game, but if you want me to be involved, I need to be truly involved. I want to actually help make this game.”
“… [With] his involvement within the league, he brought such a level of understanding to what we were trying to accomplish…” he added. “I think the final product will reflect that level of excitement that he had.” “NBA 2k13” will hit stores on Oct. 2.
