Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell Pitching Live Music TV Show
Jane’s Addiction frontman hoping to score TV show highlighting live music
Now that Lollapalooza has wrapped another successful year, festival founder and Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell may be itching to start a new project. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Farrell is working to pitch a primetime music and performance TV show to broadcast stations, and things are going well thus far.
If you’re worried that Farrell is getting on the “American Idol” bandwagon, don’t. Entertainment Weekly says that the proposed show wouldn’t be an amateur, contest-type show like “American Idol .” In its place, Farrell’s show would highlight big acts playing live music and rocking out all the hits, a la Ed Sullivan’s classic show. So, this wouldn’t have any resemblance to an “Idol” or “The Voice.”
The days of music television may seem like they’re gone, but trends go in waves, and maybe this is a sign that people are ready to bringing music back to television. These days, it’s hard pressed to find a regular TV show that features professional musicians performing their greatest hits. Entertainment Weekly says that the recent surge in ratings for primetime awards shows with high-profile musical performances, such as the Grammys and the CMAs, has the TV heads looking at Farrell’s series interested.
