The Devil Wears Prada Singer Says Band Didn’t Compromise on Mayhem
The Devil Wears Prada’s Mike Hranica says Mayhem Festival was a blast
Christian metallers the Devil Wears Prada recently wrapped up an appearance on the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, playing alongside great such as Slayer, Motorhead, Slipknot and more. It’s the kind of bill that could be very intimidating for a young band, staking its claim in the metal world. But, if you ask vocalist Mike Hranica, he’ll tell you the band took their appearance on Mayhem in stride and, in the end, felt welcomed with open ears by old school metal fans.
“…I’d be lying if I said we weren’t a bit nervous and anxious coming into this, a little bit worried as to what the reception would be, but it’s been great,” Hranica told Zoiks! Online. “We spent the first third of the tour on the main stage and really the reaction was awesome. It’s a little bit quieter than the side stage where it feels more like what we usually play. Main stage, everyone is there ready to see the headliners, but it was always a very intriguing crowd as they would watch and decide what they thought of the band.
“We didn’t do anything to compromise us to come into this tour. We didn’t have to change anything to be more accessible to the Mayhem crowd, because we hadn’t exactly done this before. We just came in as The Devil Wears Prada as always and people appreciated that.”
The Devil Wears Prada recently unleashed their first-ever concert CD/DVD set, “Dead & Alive,” featuring live footage from their run in support of “Dead Throne” last year.
