Grunge rockers Foo Fighters set to play show to benefit voter education

Dave Grohl and his grunge rock boys in Foo Fighters are lending their talents to the cause of voter education. The band have just announced that they will rock a small show at the Fillmore Charlotte in North Carolina on Sept. 5 as a benefit for Rock the Vote. The concert is scheduled during the Democratic National Convention.

So, what’s the purpose of this show? In an official statement, the band explained that the gigs is aiming to “celebrate the power of young voters … and support Rock the Vote’s ground-breaking efforts to register more than 1.5 million young people, educate and turn them out to vote this November.”

Tickets for the Foo gig are available via Live Nation and Ticketmaster outlets. In other Foo news, the band are also confirmed to play at the Global Festival on Sept. 29 in New York City’s Central Park, another charitable show. The objective of the festival is to raise awareness and money for the growing, global epidemic of poverty. Foo Fighters’ latest release, “Wasting Light,” arrived in April of 2011. The album has picked up several Grammys and scored numerous rock radio hits in “Rope,” “These Days,” “Walk,” “Bridge Burning” and “White Limo.”
