Green Day Cancel Italy Gig Due to Hospitalization of Billy Joe Armstrong
Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong sent to the hospital with an undisclosed illness
Not so good news for Green Day fans: The pop-punk trio were forced to cancel a major show in Bologna, Italy, last Friday night (Aug. 31), due to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong being hospitalized for an unnamed condition.
Bass player Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool didn’t disclose the name of the “illness” that Armstrong has, but in a video posted on the group’s official website, the two said they were “beyond devastated” to have to cancel the gig. It had to be serious for the guys to call it off. “We apologize profusely,” Dirnt stated in the video, “but Billy got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness, and the doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today. This sucks. We were really, really looking forward to playing Bologna as the highlight of our tour.”
Tre added that he’s also upset the band had to cancel the gig, stating “We’re beyond devastated, we’re sad as you guys are…and ah, we’ll see you very soon.” Hopefully the guys will re-schedule the gig sometime soon.
In other Green Day news, the band are prepping their upcoming album trilogy, “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!” and “¡Tré!” which will arrive in the next weeks and months. “Uno!” is slated to hit stores and online outlets on Sept. 25, while “¡Dos!” and “¡Tré!” are going to drop on Nov. 13, 2012, and Jan. 15, 2013, respectively.
