Killers Frontman Brandon Flowers Says Band Isn’t Endorsing Any Presidential Candidate
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a fan of the Killers, but the band isn’t taking sides in the presidential election
While Killers frontman Brandon Flowers shares the same religion as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney (they’re both Mormons), Flowers says the Killers have no plans to take sides during the upcoming presidential election. “We’ve always been neutral, so we just kinda stay out of it,” Flowers told U.K. newspaper The Independent. “None of us is planning any rallies for anybody.”
Flowers met with Romney last year, leading to rumors that he was very supportive of the Republican hopeful. Moreover, Romney has stated that he’s a fan of the Las Vegas-based alternative rock band. But, Flowers says just because the two share the same religion, that doesn’t mean he’s going to vote for him or endorse him.
“I don’t think you shouldn’t vote for [Romney] because of his religion,” says the singer. “If you’re gonna vote for somebody, you should learn about what their views are on things, and pick the guy that you identify with and believe in the most.”
As for where to check out the Killers next, the group will be the altest band to take part in the American Express-sponsored concert series “Unstaged” on Sept. 18. Coincidentally, the Killers’ latest album, “Battle Born,” reaches stores that same day. The full show will be live-streamed direct from the Paradise Theater in the Bronx at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT via YouTube.com/TheKillersVEVO.
