Underoath Announce Break Up, Farewell Tour Plans

Christian metal-core giants Underoath are calling it quits

They say all good things music come to an end, right? Well, legendary metal-core band Underoath have formally announced their decision to call it quits after a solid 15-year career together.

“It’s sad to say that we feel like it’s time to close this chapter, but we have never seen things more clearly,” singer Spencer Chamberlain said in an official statement, adding that there we no hard feelings. “These have been the best years of my entire life, and I owe that to every single person who ever supported this band along the way. This wasn’t a quick decision by any means. It’s just time for us to move on.”

Tampa, Fla.-based Underoath have enjoyed seven full-length albums together, all which earned them Grammy and Dove Award nominations and CD sales well over 1 million units. The band were also one of the groundbreaking Christian metal acts to be able to crossover and win over mainstream metal fans.

In honor of their lengthy career, Underoath plan to unleash a career-spanning retrospective album called “Anthology 1999-2012,” out Nov. 6 via Solid State Records. In addition to the favorites, the release will offer two fresh songs, “Sunburnt” and “Unsound.” Underoath will also announce dates for a special farewell tour next week.

“We don’t take this very lightly and it’s heartbreaking for all of us,” Chamberlain said of the decision. “… We love all of you and hope to see you again soon.”
