A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese has exited the band

Josh Freese is certainly one of the most sought-after drummers of his  generation. The list of bands he’s played with is lengthy: Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Devo, Sting, Weezer, the Offspring, Sublime with Rome and more.

Now, Freese is making a big decision regarding his career: He’s leaving his longstanding role as the drummer of A Perfect Circle. The breakup seems to be friendly, as there is no evidence of tension between the two camps. So, it seems Freese’s friendship with A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan is intact!

Freese announced the split via his official Twitter account: “After 13 years, I’ve decided to leave @aperfectcircle with no plans of returning. Apologies to those inquiring about the upcoming shows.” Ouch! That sounds like a permanent “goodbye.”

What’s more, Freese is leaving A Perfect Circle right after the promising news that the band will play some shows into 2013: one major show in Las Vegas on December 29 and five gigs in Australia in February and March of 2013.

This past year, Freese spent much of his time on the road with Sublime with Rome, so it’s possible the move is to enable him to spend more time with Sublime with Rome. As for who will replace Freese, that’s still up in the air. Let’s hope it’s someone who can handle A Perfect Circle’s metal-meets-art-rock vibe.
