Nirvana, Primus, Gaslight Anthem – Record Store Day Black Friday 2012 Releases
Black Friday 2012 will offer special vinyl releases from Nirvana, Primus, Gaslight Anthem and more
If you haven’t already marked your calendar, Black Friday is Friday, Nov. 23. The folks behind National Record Store Day have arranged a collection of exclusive releases for Black Friday, including special box sets and limited-edition vinyl albums available only at your local, independently-owned record shop. We picked a few to be sure to check out. For a full list of releases, head to Record Store Day’s official website.
Gaslight Anthem. The gang is releasing a Record Store Day exclusive 10” vinyl of their song “Hold You Up” via Island / Mercury records. The package includes three unreleased acoustic tracks, including “Skinny Love,” a Bon Iver cover, on 10″ red vinyl, in a clear sleeve with a poster insert. The track listing includes “Hold You Up,” “Misery” and “Skinny Love.
Mad Season. True grunge disciples will surely be stoked at the news that a special Mad Season vinyl will hit stores the day after Thanksgiving. Mad Season, of course, is a ‘90s grunge project that featured members of three popular Seattle-based groups: Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. The band is best known for its single “River of Deceit,” and that song will be available via a special, 10” colored vinyl on Black Friday. “I Don’t Know Anything (Live)” is also featured on the set.
Nirvana. Fans of Nirvana will have the chance to pick up a special 20th anniversary edition of “Incesticide” on 12” vinyl. The release is recompiled and remastered from the original analog master tape, and it was pressed by Analogue Productions on two 180 gram virgin vinyl discs and cut at 45 RPM vinyl for superior audio quality. The recreation of the jacket designed by Kurt Cobain includes the lyric sheet art and for the first time comes housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve.
Primus. Les Claypool and Primus release a special 10” vinyl, “Green Naugahyde 10,” on Black Friday via ATO Records. The name is a reference to the band’s current release, “Green Naugahyde,” and it features two, never-before-released live tracks, “Jilly’s on Smack” and b/w “Eyes of the Squirrel,” on clear green vinyl.
White Stripes. The White Stripes release not one, not two, but three special 7” vinyls on Black Friday, all via Jack White’s Third Man Records. The former duo will offer separate sets featuring “Fell in Love With a Girl” with “I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself”; “Hotel Yorba” (Live at the Hotel Yorba) and “Rated X” (Live at the Hotel Yorba); and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” coupled with “Stop Breaking Down.”
