Florence + the Machine frontwomen Florence Welch is hoping to get a musical into London’s West End

Florence Welch isn’t content with simply being the frontwoman of one of the decade’s biggest alternative bands, Florence + the Machine. Now, Welch wants to bring a full-fledged musical to London’s West End. Welch says she’s planning to spend some time working on a musical with one of her good friends, Sophie Hart-Walsh, after the band’s tour winds down.

“We always used to write songs about our lives and sing them to each other,” Welch told the London Evening Standard. “We always said we should make them into a musical.” She added that her dream would be to get the show into London’s West End theaters.

Welch added that whether or not the musical pans out, she’s going to take a break after Florence + the Machine’s touring cycle wraps. “I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends,” she said. “I’ve only just moved out of my mum’s house, so I’d like to settle into my new place and start getting inspired again. If I started writing songs now, all they’d be about is tour buses and hotel rooms.”

In other band news, Florence + the Machine recently released the music video for their track “Lover to Lover,” the upcoming single from the group’s current release, “Ceremonials.” Watch the clip via the group’s official Nowness page.
