Indie rock band .fun are the sole music act to make Entertainment Weekly annual ‘Entertainers of the Year’ list

It’s time to give fun. a pat on their collective back, as the New York-based indie pop rockers are the sole music act to make Entertainment Weekly’s annual list of Entertainers of the Year. Hit such as “We Are Young” and “Some Nights” propelled the guys to the top of the charts this year, which surely helped the band solidify the Entertainment Weekly honors.

Actress Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries fame was asked to write a tribute to the group, and she did so in a glowing assessment of not only .fun but also their frontman, Nate Ruess.

“Nate Ruess has such a unique voice, and in a world where everyone and their brother sings the same and is trying to copy the same hit song, being different is what makes him stand out and what makes us listen,” she stated. “He’s the voice of our inner dialogue.”

She added that’s she’s not just an admirer of Ruess’ work– she’s a major fan. “If I ever met him, I’d probably go all fangirl on him,” she wrote. “I would tell Nate he has made many a day sunny for me and made me smile on too many occasions to count, and I would thank him for that.  When you listen to [their band’s current album] ‘Some Nights,’ it makes you stop, and it forces you to live in the moment and appreciate how exciting it is.”

In other fun. news, the band is up for a whopping six Grammy awards at this year’s ceremonies, including the coveted Album of the Year trophy for their release “Some Nights.” The 55th Grammy Awards will happen in Los Angeles on February 10, 2013, and the broadcast will air on CBS.
