Former White Stripes frontman Jack White says he misses the band

Jack White has enjoyed plenty of success this year with his debut solo album, “Blunderbuss,” which shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart its first week out. But even with all of White’s achievements as a solo artist, nothing will ever replace the White Stripes in his heart.

“Yeah, I always will miss the White Stripes,” White said in an interview with Esquire. “My dad’s dead; it’s like saying do you miss your dad? Of course, I always will. How could I not?”

The White Stripes called it quits in February of 2011, and many have speculated it was drummer Meg White’s decision to end the band. Since then, the Stripes have stayed true to their retirement, apart from a few scattered vinyl releases of past material.

Switching subjects to today’s celebrity culture, White opened up about his distaste for so-called modern celebrities. “The goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator,” he said. “’Hey, I’m a guy just like you. I like a beer, a football game.’ Especially in reality television, you’ll see people will go so far as to make a fool out of themselves just to prove that.”
