Rage Against the Machine Guitarist Gives Update on Band’s Future
Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello says the band might never tour or make music together again
Fans of ‘90s rap-rockers Rage Against the Machine holding out hope for the band to reunite are going to have to keep waiting, as Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello says he isn’t sure if the band will ever play music together again.
“Whether or not we ever play music again in any capacity is unknown,” Morello said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I’m grateful for the music we played together. For me, as a fan, not just as a member of the band, it’s some of the most exciting stuff I’ve ever had the pleasure to hear, let alone to be a part of.”
Rage recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, and Morello says he had hoped the band would get together to perform a “five-continent world tour” to commemorate the landmark, but the rest of the band wasn’t feeling the proposal. “Once a year, the band meets and very seriously discusses and turns down awesome offers to tour the world,” he said. “That’s part of the program.”
As for recording new music, Morello says that’s likely not in the cards, either, as the band’s “combustible chemistry” is getting in the way of the band crafting new music. “If it were up to me, I would’ve made two records a year,” he notes. “As it is, we have just three records of original material over 20 years.”
