Nirvana and Paul McCartney Collaboration to Appear on ‘Sound City’ Soundtrack

Upcoming ‘Sound City’ soundtrack will feature ‘Cut Me Some Slack,’ recorded by Nirvana and Paul McCartney

Nirvana fans were surely up late Wednesday night (Dec. 12) watching “12.12.12 — The Concert for Sandy Relief,” as the show’s finale featured the surviving members of Nirvana rocking on with former Beatle frontman Paul McCartney together onstage. The guys jammed out to a track called “Cut Me Some Slack,” at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and now, more information is out about how the song came together.

According to a post on Paul McCartney’s official website, the song will appear on Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s upcoming documentary, “Sound City.” The version of the tune slated for the soundtrack is a studio track recorded in Grohl’s home studio. “Sound City” is set to chronicle the famed Los Angeles Sound City Studios, where Nirvana recorded their sophomore opus, “Nevermind.” The documentary features interviews with musicians who have recorded Sound City, including Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Neil Young, Tom Petty and more.

The “Sound City” version of “Cut Me Some Slack” features McCartney, Grohl, Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic and Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear, who all performed together at the Sandy relief concert. “Nevermind” producer Butch Vig handled recording duties for the song.
