Metallica plan to hold their annual music festival at Belle Isle next year
Metallica recently announced that Detroit would be the locale for the band’s second annual Orion Music + More Festival on June 8 and 9, 2013. Now, it looks like the guys have picked a venue, and that’s Belle Isle. According to the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit City Council has approved the spot for the two-day music and arts extravaganza.
City Councilman Ken Cockrel Jr. believes Orion Music + More will help boost Detroit’s economy. “Anytime you have a two-day music festival like this, that’s going to bring fans from throughout the country and possibly throughout the world, it’s good for the city from an economic perspective,” he told the publication.
The inaugural edition of Orion Music + More took place this past June in Atlantic City. Music-wise, the show featured performances from Modest Mouse, Volbeat, Cage the Elephant, Eric Church, Avenged Sevenfold, The Sword, Gaslight Anthem, Arctic Monkeys and Metallica headlining both nights of the festival. Metallica are expected to reprise their double-headlining role next year. The event also boasted a car show and horror memorabilia a la Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.
