The Smiths Won’t Reunite at Coachella
The Smiths have turned down an offer to play Coachella 2013, according to a spokesman for Morrissey
Smiths fans hoping to see Morrissey reunite with Johnny Marr and resurrect the band just got some bad news: A reunion isn’t likely to happen in the near future. The Smiths are Coachella’s dream headliner, but as it turns out, Morrissey has already turned down an offer to reunite the group at this year’s music festival.
According to The Huffington Post, the festival heads approached Morrissey about headlining the 2013 festival, but he wasn’t into it. A spokesman for the musician said in a statement, “Morrissey has refused a Smiths headline offer for this year’s Coachella Festival.”
Coachella has offered the Smiths choice spots on the festival for years, and even went so far to say they would offer only vegetarian food at the event if the band agreed to reunite at Coachella back in 2010. Even so, Morrissey and Marr are staunch in their desire to not bank on nostalgia.
Nevertheless, the show will go on, and the 2013 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is scheduled to take place April 12-14 and April 19-21, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif.
