Metallica’s Robert Trujillo says the band is working hard on their follow-up to ‘Death Magnetic’

Metallica may be gearing up for their second annual Orion Music + More festival, happening June 8-9 at Detroit’s Belle Isle, but that doesn’t mean the men are neglecting working on a new album. According to bass player Robert Trujillo, the metal band has been slowly working on their follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic,” and he feels good about the songs.

“The ideas that I have been hearing and have been a part of, to me are very, very exciting and I see us making a great album,” Trujillo told All Africa. “I feel in my heart that we are going to do something special. Beyond this, I have no idea what is going to happen ’cause, right now, it feels great and we are gonna do that, but the next album — we’ll see.”

Switching gears to Metallica’s upcoming 3D film, “Through the Never,” Trujillo says the guys are starting to wrap up production on the project. Expect the film to premiere exclusively at IMAX theaters across North America for an entire week beginning on Sept. 27.

“I’ve seen a recent cut and we have a lot of work to do — we’re not finished, but we’re getting close and I feel that the end result will be special,” he said. “I believe it’s going to be great.”
