Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz prepping to release his debut solo album

Damon Albarn has led quite a diverse musical career over the years. Just look at the long list of bands he’s fronted, from cartoon rockers Gorillaz to Blur to the Good, the Bad & the Queen and beyond. Now, Albarn is taking that big step into the solo world. The singer has announced that he has been working hard on his debut solo release with XL Records owner Richard Russell, and he’s hoping to release it soon.

“Making a solo record…can be such a disaster, so I thought if we’re going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it — take that responsibility away from myself,” Albarn told Rolling Stone. “Richard does the kind of rhythmic side of it and I do everything else.”

No specific release date has been announced for Albarn’s solo album yet. As for touring, Albarn hinted to Rolling Stone that he’ll be touring to promote the album and will play a wide range of material on tour, including songs from all of his bands.

Switching gears to talk of Albarn’s career in general, when asked about his different projects, Albarn explained, “I get bored extremely easily. Blur was definitely my Nineties, Gorillaz was my 2000s, and then I’ve done a lot of different stuff this decade.”
