Roughly two weeks ago, the Pixies announced that their longtime bass player, Kim Deal, was leaving the band. Now, the band has already regrouped and unleashed their new track in nine years, “Bagboy.”
The Pixies went to their website to post a video for the song today (June 28), which depicts a teenage boy going shopping and then coming home to trash his quarters.
Pixies frontman Black Francis says he wrote the song in a familiar place. “The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body,’” he said in an official statement. “The music for the song has been around for a few years.”
Not only are the Pixies debuting “Bagboy” today, but they’re also giving away the song for free. Fans can head to the band’s website to snag a free download of “Bagboy” in exchange for an email address.
