Eddie Vedder Says Breaks Are Necessary for Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder says the space in between Pearl Jam albums ‘is healthy’
Pearl Jam took their sweet time when putting together the band’s upcoming tenth studio album, “Lightning Bolt,” as the band’s previous album, “Backspacer,” arrived four years ago. While the lengthy time between albums might be frustrating to fans, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder says those breaks are necessary.
“We’re more of a group than ever, and the space in between is healthy,” he told Rolling Stone. “It’s a big part of everybody’s life, to be playing music, at all times. And at the same time, it’s important to us to be part of our families, to not be absent fathers.”
Vedder says that although taking a lot of time between albums is needed, that time off does put a greater emphasis on the albums when they do come out, and that can add some stress. “When you take longer between records, there’s more importance placed on the records,” he said. “Maybe the next thing you do is put out another one in the next year — just put it out, and not have a buildup.”
“Lightning Bolt” is set to drop in stores and online on Oct. 15.
