Jack White Discusses Upcoming Paramount Records Box Set

Jack White and Third Man Records will release a box set of Paramount Records recordings in November

Jack White and his Third Man Records are getting ready to release a box set of about nearly 100 classic releases from Paramount Records, the record label once known for its quality jazz and blues recordings from the 1920s and 1930s. The release, “The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-1927),” is limited-edition, with just 5,000 copies available, and costs $400.

White isn’t looking to make money on this set. According to the former White Stripes frontman, he’ll have to push 4,000 copies of the sets just to cover the production costs.

“Everything we do, it’s never to make a dollar,” White told Rolling Stone. “It’s always to make something exist. And we end up paying the bills that way, because other people want to experience those things too.”

White says that the Paramount Records collection is a snapshot of a “whole story of American culture.” He added, “It’s every idea you can imagine — a forgotten artist no one cares about, mixed with a failing business, then the Great Depression, the materials people used to build things.”

“The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-1927)” will arrive on Nov. 19. For more information, visit the Third Man Records website.
