The National appear on the ‘Catching Fire’ soundtrack with the song ‘Lean’

Indie rock darlings the National have a new tune out called “Lean” that appears on the soundtrack for the upcoming “Hunger Games” sequel, “Catching Fire.” After weeks of buzz about the track, the group is finally ready to share the tune, and they’ve posted a stream to “Lean” on Republic Records’ Soundcloud page. Take a listen to the song below.

The National’s cut almost didn’t make the “Catching Fire” soundtrack. According to frontman Matt Berninger, the song’s original title, “Dying is Easy,” was too morose for what producers wanted for the soundtrack. So, the band changed the title.

“The song almost didn’t make it because it was too dark for ‘The Hunger Games’ soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because it’s about killing kids,” Beringer told NME. “I don’t know how a song can be darker than that? So we had to change the name of the song; I actually like the name ‘Lean’.”

The soundtrack to “Catching Fire” will reach stores on Nov. 19. Other artists that will appear on the soundtrack include Lorde, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men and the Lumineers.
