311 are prepping their follow-up to 2011’s ‘Universal Pulse’

311 have been laying down tracks for their follow-up to 2011’s “Universal Pulse,” and now, the guys are starting to get specific about the release. The alternative rockers have dropped the news that they plan to release the album on March 11, 2014, the same date of their annual 311 Day concert. The upcoming album also happens to be the band’s 11th studio release, too.

As for what to expect musically from the release, frontman Nick Hexum says it’s shaping up to be a different-sounding 311 album, packed with experimentation and variety. “There’s a lot of riffs and really good high-energy stuff that’s going to be great for a live setting,” he told Billboard. “I think there’s a good diversity of tempos and feels and arrangements, lots of distortion guitar and big rocking parts but then there’s some trippy, chill-out moments and even some hard rock, like dual leads that some might say could sound like some old classic rock.”

311 have yet to announce a title for the upcoming collection. The album, which is being produced by Scotch Ralston, will also be the guys’ first released exclusively on their own label, 311 Records.
