Daft Punk, Lorde, Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys on Rolling Stone’s Best Songs of 2013 List
Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 best songs of 2013 includes tunes by Daft Punk, Lorde, Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys
It’s the end of the year, and with that comes a slew of year-end lists. One of the most anticipated lists, Rolling Stone’s 100 best songs of 2013, features a collection of alternative acts, including Daft Punk, Lorde, Vampire Weekend and Arctic Monkeys. That’s not a big surprise, since Rolling Stone has toted those groups’ praises all year.
No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s list is Daft Punk with their mega-electronic hit “Get Lucky,” which also features rapper Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers. Rolling Stone says “Get Lucky” deserves to be the No. 1 track of 2013 because the song “topped song charts in 55 countries, and went on to be covered by everyone from [Florence + the Machine frontwoman] Florence Welch to Fall Out Boy to Wilco.”
No. 2 on the list is New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde with “Royals.” Rolling Stones says Lorde’s tune “touched a nerve by being both irresistible and radical: the sound of a teenager in love with hip-hop (but not its materialism) deciding to be queen of her own scene.”
Other alternative rockerse in the Top 10 include Vampire Weekend with “Hannah Hunt” at No. 4 and Arctic Monkeys with “Do I Wanna Know?” at No. 10. The full list is up at Rolling Stone’s official website.
