Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood Composing the Score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’

Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood is working on music for the upcoming film ‘Inherent Vice’

Radiohead bass player bass player Colin Greenwood recently stated that the guys were enjoying taking time off from the band, and now, it appears his brother, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, is keeping busy with a different project of sorts. As the Film Music Reporter reports, Jonny is currently working on composing the music for the upcoming film “Inherent Vice,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The publication states that the score will be recorded sometime this month with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.

“Inherent Vice” is based on Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 crime novel of the same title. The story takes place in the 1960s in Los Angeles and tells the story of a detective named Larry “Doc” Sportello as he goes on a search for a kidnapped girl.

Jonny and Anderson have a fairly lengthy history of working together, as the guitarist wrote the scores for two of Anderson’s previous films: “The Master” and “There Will Be Blood.” Also up ahead this year for Jonny is the release of a split LP of orchestral compositions with the National’s Bryce Dessner, which will arrive in stores on March 3. Meanwhile, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has been keeping busy with his other band, Atoms for Peace, whose debut full-length, “Amok,” arrived last year.
