Brockie founded Gwar in 1984 and was the heavy metal band’s only consistent member. Throughout the years, Gwar became known for their stage spectacle, which featured graphic onstage imagery and creepy, scifi costumes. The group was also recognized as a defining force in thrash metal and earned two Grammy nominations, one in 1993 for Best Long Form Music Video for “Phallus in Wonderland,” and the other in 1995 for Best Metal Performance for “S.F.W.”
