Mastodon Release Guitar-Heavy New Song, ‘High Road’
Mastodon’s new album, ‘Once More ‘Round the Sun,’ will drop this June
Mastodon are known for their sludgy, alternative metal style that carefully mixes progressive metal with hardcore. The Atlanta-based guys served as one of the headliners of Mayhem Festival last year, and now, the group is getting ready to release a new album, “Once More ‘Round the Sun.”
Mastodon have released a guitar-heavy new song called “High Road” from the album, which is currently streaming via the band’s official website and on Soundcloud. Even though the song is called “High Road,” it’s actually not about taking the high road. According to a statement from Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher, he wrote “High Road” during some downtime while on tour in Luxembourg. “I was sitting in this rainy city on a Sunday, and nothing was open. I felt like I needed to write something to reflect how I was feeling [so] I started banging on a guitar,” he said.
The tune features a husky guitar riff, towering vocals and a thick chorus.
“Once More ‘Round the Sun” will be available in retail and digital stores this June, and Mastodon will be touring this Spring in support of the upcoming release. View the band’s currently announced North American tour dates below.
