A new note released from Kurt Cobain’s death scene jokes about his marriage to Courtney Love

More than 20 years have passed since Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was found dead in a garage above his Seattle home, but the episode isn’t quite over yet. After deciding to once again look at the case, Seattle police have uncovered a previously unreleased note from the death scene, addressed to Cobain’s wife (and Hole frontwoman) Courtney Love.

In the note acquired by CBS, which was discovered in Cobain’s wallet and penned on stationery from the Phoenix Hotel, is what looks to be a pretty wicked play on traditional marriage vows, penned for Love, Cobain’s wife of two years at that point.

“Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife,” Cobain wrote, “even when she’s a bitch with zits and siphoning all (your) money for doping and whoring…”

When police found Cobain dead, from what the King County Medical Examiner would deem a suicide, the note was removed from his wallet, tucked away as evidence by the Seattle Police Department (SPD) case file and never released.

Seattle police decided to review the case last month, right around the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death, but not reopen it. Many conspiracy theories regarding Cobain’s death exist, and the Seattle police explained that because of that wild speculation, it was in their interested to look into the case once again during the heightened interest surrounding the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s passing.
