Axl Rose rules when it comes to vocal range

Ever wondered what popular singer has the biggest vocal range? While pop stars such as Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera may come to mind, according to a new report from Concert Hotels that looks at the singer with the greatest vocal range and the highest and lowest recorded ranges, the answer is actually a rock vocalist: former Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose.

Rose’s range covers a whopping five and a half octaves, from F1 to B flat 6. In comparison, Carey’s range covers a little over five octaves, but not five and a half. The song “There Was a Time” shows off Rose’s lower range, while “Ain’t It Fun” sits in the higher range.

Other singers in the top five include Prince at No. 3, Steven Tyler at No. 4 and James Brown in the No.5 spot.

Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin both have the same range and sit at No. 24 on the list. Other rock singers in the top 25 include David Bowie (8), Radiohead’s Thom Yorke (10), Freddie Mercury (11) and Bono (21).
